Review on Stone Stoneware Reactive Glaze Dinnerware by Mayrando Clark

Extremely beautiful with a slightly poor finish on the bottom

This set is incredibly attractive but has one of the worst finishes and the ability to 'stack' in Stone Lain porcelain ranges. Dishes do not stack well due to a lack of supports, meaning they sit squarely on the edge of the plates below rather than on a secure base, resulting in more surface wear. They wash well and, importantly, the size of the plates is normal (they fit in a normal cupboard). The bowls don't stack well and wobble a bit in the closet, so be prepared that they'll take up a lot more room in a typical closet than other bowls that fit better, especially if you're buying more than one set. It is very convenient to drink from cups. What I didn't quite notice in the photos was the slight "ripple" of the bowls and plates around the edges - they're "rustic" and not 100% symmetrical. Approximate dimensions: plate diameter. 10.5"; salad bowl 8.5; bowl 6". One of the constant little annoyances I have with Stone Lain sets, which is also very evident with this particular set at the bottom of each cookware - unlike any other consumer set in the world, from Sango to Gibson, from CB2 to Lenox and Mikasa - Stone Lain doesn't actually "manufacture" the base and legs of its cookware. It's always a rough feeling. Any dishes that slide out of the closet and into the closet are nails on a slab, rough unglazed pottery scraping dishes, tugging at wooden shelves, or dishes scratching a plate. Sometimes even the unfinished wandering and sharp glass frits from ceramic firing stick to their stoneware pieces. For the price, I think Stone Lain should have a more "finished" experience. I'm less inclined to forgo a poor glazing finish where my kitchen towels or fingers keep snagging or it's slowly scratching the finish off the shelves in my cabinet where these sets sit. Otherwise the design is really nice and this one is particularly nice with its dark mottled finish. Conclusion: I keep reaching for this set because the pieces are great and fit perfectly. But I hate their sound and their feel.
