Review on 3M Performance Connector Pouch by Shawn Tolbert

Revainrating 5 out of 5

much better and for what you want

There simply is no comparison to the ridiculously low priced Chinese wire nuts offered by Revain. The 3M is way, way better, and given what you're asking of it, you really should spend the extra money on the Minnesota-designed version. For starters, reality itself is more universal. This includes a range of sizes in red and brown. But even within the same subject it is much better. The red skirt is flexible at the bottom, while the brown one is more rigid, making it "comfy-r" (at least as comfortable as hand-rolling big # of them can be). Inside is a real kicker. The spring that "bites" the bare wires and ties them together is real, strong, bent steel. As a result, it cuts and bites into the copper and has a very good tension. If you separate this nut from a cheap Chinese wire nut you will see that the Chinese one has a crappy round shiny spring that can be ripped apart with your fingers and has no angle to cut into the copper. In fact, Chinese springs often fail because they are too loose, meaning you can accidentally put on a springless nut and get a bad contact. Not at 3M's. I dropped all Chinese and went 100% with these Tan/Red 3Ms except for the Orange/Blue package for rare 14G connections or less.

Pros
  • Flexible skirt prevents copper exposure for added security
Cons
  • No performance
