I am an elderly person who uses a cane. I decided to buy this to use on a recent plane trip. It offered ample space for medicine, personal belongings, a book, wallet and battery. I used the outside pocket for my ID and boarding pass. When I was on the plane, I put my collapsible walking stick in the main compartment and hid it in the overhead compartment. The backpack has wide shoulder straps. I found it quite convenient to carry when we needed to go to another gate quickly. I wish I had bought this many years ago.
