Combined with a piece of slate (not attached), cutting tools and drawers, this piece makes a very heavy item that normally needs to be stored horizontally. If you try to stand it upright you risk the stone falling out when the board is pulled out. This limits where you can store it. How it worked for us, we only had space and love this purchase. The idea is so cool that we ordered several similar smaller boards (this one is quite large) as gifts for others. If I had to do it again I would buy without the stone insert.
