Setup wasn't easy: 25 minutes of confusion trying to connect it to Wi-Fi. (it doesn't connect to bluetooth at all) By the end of this setup I was chafing at Sonos' arrogance for trying to replace the Spotify app with their crappy app. One of the main reasons people use streaming services is to customize music to suit their tastes, like or dislike the songs - the Sonos app won't let you do that! All you can do is play from a static list. Internet research revealed that you can actually use the Spotify app directly. So I did. However, if you're playing over WiFi, you won't be able to use the equalizer part of Spotify. main fright! I don't care how good you think your speaker is, nothing beats matching it perfectly with an equalizer. Eventually the connection dropped every 20 minutes or so for no apparent reason. I had to reconnect my phone every time. With all of these flaws, the overall sound (based on many hours of listening and covering almost every genre) was good. (which should be for $500). So how does it compare to the competition? Well, all three were close and I could be happy with any of them. But getting down to the nuances of the sound, the Beolit17 undoubtedly had the best bass. While the Sonos did hit a little lower on some songs, it didn't have the narrow impact/weight of the Beolit. The addon had the most accurate, crisp sound (maybe 5% better than the other two?), but that's about it. not have enough low frequencies. However, it did have a subwoofer output. So if you're tempted to install a subwoofer, this would be the best choice of the three. (which I ended up doing as I'm particularly impressed with the sound quality). But that might not be a very fair direct comparison. I should mention that the Sonos5 had a sort of 3D quality where the sound sometimes seemed to come out of 8 inches down one side of the speaker (the only speaker that does this). It should also be noted that the Beolit was the only battery powered device in the mix and this didn't seem to affect the sound quality. All in all, my pick of the three would be the Beolit17 as the best overall package, then the AddonC10 (if you're using a subwoofer), then the Sonos5 (technical issues and inability to customize the sound made it the best). last choice for me)
