Review on 🖥️ OWC OWCDIYIM27SSD11 Upgrade Kit for Apple iMac by Don Devine

I ordered this kit after speaking directly with OWC about upgrading/replacing my current hard drive in my 27" iMac Mid 2011. We looked at options to simply replace the main hard drive, put an additional SSD in the caddy instead of the CD or optical drive, put an SSD under the CD drive, which required extra work, and a free SATA port on the use motherboard. In the end, we decided that leaving the existing hard drive and adding an additional SSD that takes advantage of the full speed of the SATA connector on the motherboard was the right way to go, even if it was more complex and complex. I received specific codes from OWC to ensure they match my car including exact model and serial number. I ordered the kit and a separate 500GB SSD for installation. I watched their OWC tutorial video, they had very clear and concise instructions, I followed them step by step and never disassembled an iMac before, I did it relatively easy! It was sometimes a little nervous breakdown! lol but the video was easy to follow and I was able to replay and zoom in many times to help. I was able to keep my 1TB internal hard drive and add a 500GB SSD under the optical drive, essentially keeping everything on the Mac stock without taking anything out. Then I cloned the existing HDD to my SSD and changed the boot drive to iMac settings and rocks your uncle! Doesn't matter! from low sequential read and write speeds of the late 90's - early 100's to almost 500. So a nice update! The tools were great and essential, I opted for a gold SK Hynix S31 SSD rather than the OWC own brand as it was. cheaper and slightly faster from research tests. Overall, replacement parts cost just over $90 and installation takes about 90 minutes. Add 20GB of RAM and my 2011 iMac has served as a family companion for several years now!
