Review on Ikelite Underwater Camera Housing 624210 by Larry Morris

better than a canon body?

Just returned from a week diving in Little Cayman with Canon S100 and Ikelite housing. I looked at the Canon body and bought the Ikelite because it's rated about 100 feet lower with a stronger body. The body worked well, but there are a few things to note compared to the Canon body. Ikelite has a large lens mount so you can add a wide angle or macro lens. The only problem with the large port is that it blocks the camera's flash, requiring you to use an external flash. My external flash was turned off during my stay, so I was limited to shooting in natural light. The Canon body allows for the use of a camera flash, but you get a lot of backscatter with a camera flash. The Ikelite housing allows you to use all of the camera's functions, except for the ring around the function/adjustment button. However, you can set the front ring to use these features if you need them. The main use is probably an over/under exposure. What I really like is that they give you a larger ring that fits over the ring around the lens to interact with the body control knob. This larger ring makes it much easier to use outside of the case. Canon should have made the ring a bit bigger. I had a problem: a few keys are stuck. The boat didn't have a bucket to wash the chamber so we had to wait until we got off the boat to soak the chamber. I don't know if it had anything to do with that. I started cleaning the hull with a freshwater hose after every dive. The hull has a slight positive buoyancy. I put a lead weight on the underside of the hull and it turned out to be pretty neutral. 10/17/13 After using this case for several years, I downgraded its rating. The camera control buttons in depth don't always work. Everything works on the surface or in shallow water, but in the depth I always had problems with all the buttons. Sometimes the buttons don't work and sometimes the camera hangs when you try to e.g. B. turn off the flash. I suspect the buttons aren't long enough to provide enough pressure on the camera buttons. I also think the springs aren't strong enough to retract the buttons in depth. I have friends with a Canon body and they have no problems. I would not recommend this accommodation.
