This cable tester tests Ethernet cables, USB printer cables (Type A), telephone cables and BNC cables. Of these, the first two are perhaps the most useful. as you may only need to test the phone cord if you still have a cordless phone or fax connected to the VoIP box. and I'm not aware of anything currently still using terminated BNC. The ethernet port test shows if the cable is crossed and shows a light for each wire so you know which ones work if you make your own. It doesn't tell you what the cable is designed for. So like ethernet port tester, it tells you if your cable is good, not its maximum rating. The kit does not include the required 9V battery, but the power required is minimal as it only turns on for about 3 seconds after you press the button. test button. A carry bag is included. The end of each cable connects to a bottom module that can be removed for remote placement during testing. Overall I think this is a great tester, even if some of the cables I tested are a bit retro. It delivers what it promises and keeps battery consumption to a minimum. I'm rating it four stars because I often have to hit the test button multiple times to see if all the lights are on. If they added USB-3/c and RG-6 tests and Ethernet speed ratings, this would be a five star cable tester. As always, your mileage and preferences may vary.
