I bought a Lemon collar

I bought the DOGTRA collar while working with a well known dog trainer in Florida. We quickly realized that sometimes the collar didn't work. In the end it didn't work at all. The device was a lemon from the start. I sent the e-collar back to DOGTRA but had to pay the shipping costs. Dogtra did not replace the failed device but repaired it. Dogtra returned the block to me, but the signal was much weaker than before. Sometimes my dog didn't feel it at all. I called Dogtra about the weak signal; They told me that the battery was probably low. The device was only a few months old and the new battery had somehow run down (or was replaced with a run down battery during the repair). Dogtra offered to cover the shipping costs for the second repair, but the return takes more than 2 weeks. .The design of the device is convenient to use. The separate intensity dial is a great feature, but it's best suited for formal workouts where intensity is expected. This collar might not be the best for everyday situations where you might be caught off guard and need to determine the intensity right away. The best solution for this situation is a device that allows the trainer to pre-program each intensity button. There is also a switch on the device that can easily turn off the signal when moved to the right. The switch is for the second collar and toggling will signal the second dog, however toggling to the right will turn the unit off if only one collar is in use. This switch slides too easily and occasionally accidentally slips, turning the device off without your knowledge. Timing of stimulation is important during exercise, and tampering with a malfunctioning device can ruin a workout. The Dogtra collar I purchased was made for a 10 pound dog but the device is the same size as a large dog. The chunky device hasn't been scaled down to the size of a small dog. The weighted unit does not stay in place around the tiny dog's tiny neck, but instead hangs around the tracheal area.

Pros
  • High test results for grip and durability
Cons
  • Minor issues
