Review on 🎨 Vibrant Water-Soluble Pastels by Caran d'Ache: Classic Neocolor II, 15 Colors by Amy Mcleod

They are wax-based but water-soluble - ideal for touching up

As an underpainting, I usually apply watercolor or a thin oil base to pastel cardboard. Both methods are still excellent ways to create some kind of "sound map". I watched Johannes Vluthuis paint with pastels using Caran d'Ache Neoclor II as a touch up. Apply a few marks of the desired shade and color, activate them with a water brush or a regular watercolor brush (not precious as sanded surfaces don't suit) and you'll easily get a touch up with colors just as cheerful. The pastel works right over it with no real problem with tooth loss. As with other underpainting techniques, let some of these show through. The published painting is by Johannes Vloothuis and shows the results of this vignette-style technique. Neocolor II is a good addition to the pastel artist's toolset. DO NOT use NEOCOLOR I on pastels under paintings as they are wax based but waterproof.
