I bought these chalk markers to make signs on my wedding table and they worked great! I was concerned about the thickness of the marker nib, but it was too big for my mock calligraphy. They're subtly opaque in a single coat, but look better if you go over the letters twice - if you look at my photo, the word "Vanilla" in the front center is much more noticeable than "Iced Tea" " behind it because I walked it letters twice. These markers CAN be washed if you are writing on a real (non-porous) chalk surface. At first I used a damp cloth to erase, which resulted in a small amount of chalk residue, but if you want to remove every bit of chalk, use Mr. Clean.
