I have been doing DIY for many years (as a hobby) and have only recently started to take sewing more seriously. This book came highly recommended to me to take me to the next level. It is detailed and easy to understand, with lots of pictures and diagrams, large print, and just as much text as needed. It covers all the basics and basics of sewing. I also like that the book includes a number of projects that can use the book's methods. Some of the projects are fashion related and one would think that the patterns would go unworn a few years after the publication date of the last edition of the book. Not so. They are timeless, so they can be used not only as a handy way to practice techniques, but also as clothing items that can actually be worn. I am not that far yet. First I need to get some tools, take some measurements and create a reference pattern. All of this is very clearly described in the book. Other useful sections of the book include the section on alterations (both for undersized and undersized clothes) and a whole chapter on hand sewing that might be helpful for those who haven't yet dared to buy a sewing machine and high quality ones Finishing of clothing.
