Review on ๐Ÿ’ป IOGEAR GUS402 Peripheral Sharing Switch: 2 Computers, 4-Port USB 2.0 Efficiency by Steven Harmon

Revainrating 5 out of 5

So 5 stars maybe 4.8? It's time to get rid of this KVM. *UPDATE* READ THIS

Great product for your purposes. Allows sharing of up to 4 USB devices between 2 computers. If like me you are using a KVM switch with PS2 connectors but have a monitor with multiple inputs like DVI (DisplayPort, HDMI, VGA) you can throw away the KVM, use the monitor to switch inputs and use that USB . Mouse and keyboard switches. I usually leave one computer running 24/7 and turn on the other when needed. I've found that when you need to switch inputs to a computer that isn't running, it's best to switch to that input and then start the PC. The only negative I've found so far is that the input switch is sticky, so I did some research. Drop a little to relieve the pressure around the key. No sticking. I use this with a Corsair keyboard and a wireless Logitech mouse. The product works great. *UPDATE* 5/9/17 YOU NEED IT. Switch SLOWWWWWWW or 2 - it only works well when permanently connected to a powered on computer. SOLUTION - There is 5V DC on the front panel, there is a reason for this. STRENGTH! If you plug in a 5V power supply it works fine and doesn't need to be constantly plugged into a powered on PC and it doesn't take long to switch. I used an old Motorola charger. Works GREAT and I leave it on all the time. (We're talking the last 3 years!) *UPDATE #2* I can't believe I have the same Switch from 2014. It's now 2020. That's 6 years of 24/7 usage. Not a single problem. I also ran it the same old Motorola phone charger the entire time. Wow. How many of these things are enough for 6 years of continuous use?

Pros
  • Charge mobile devices such as smartphones from any USB device port
Cons
  • Some bugs
