Review on Yottamaster Aluminum Drive Enclosure Support by Steven Harper

Revainrating 3 out of 5

No customer service, no quality control, defective parts, crappy manual

I bought a Yottamaster Type-C 5-bay case. But prior to purchase I contacted the company 2 weeks prior to buying the drive and asked if they would send me a copy of the drive's instruction manual as I wanted to see the installation guide first. No Answer. I went ahead and bought the disc thinking if I had problems with it right away I would just return it. When I received the drive, I noticed that one of the plastic drive trays was missing the horizontal LED mechanism that transmits light from the circuit board to the front of the tray (each tray has one, for a total of 5 LEDs). on board). In the absence of light transmission, the front-wheel drive looks inoperable. So I contacted the company again, this time through Revain, thinking they might be able to contact me in this case. Revane said I'd hear back in 2 days. I asked Yotta if they would send me another tray instead of sending the whole disc back to Revain. Again 2 weeks have passed with no response so I returned the unit to get another tablet with a working lamp. The drive trays are cheaply made and there is obviously no quality control when assembling these cases.2. Although they sent me another unit, believe it or not, the plastic mechanism that displays the board's LCD backlight was noticeably dimmer. So even though I was able to replace the tray, I have a much dimmer light in the bottom tray. As such, their ability to craft identical parts between units is questionable. This is a low quality disc.3. The on/off button on the original unit protruded about 1mm from the case (nice). You can touch the device and find the button without flipping the device. The plug in switch was 1mm *inside* the case so you either have your pinky fingers or use a pencil or something to turn the device on and off. Another example of not being able to make the same parts across their entire product line. The interior width of the case is so narrow that you cannot re-insert the drive trays if you DO NOT use the screws. I had the standard screws that fit my drives, but the heads that were supposed to work didn't. Their screw heads are flat, and this difference is enough to allow the drive trays to slide inward. However, there is no guarantee that the screw threads will work in your drives, so be warned. I was lucky.5. Manual. It's split into two parts, English and Chinese, and you can tell the English part was NOT translated by someone who speaks English - they seem to have used some sort of translator and it reads like it was from the sixth grader been written. Good luck with it. Luckily, the setup isn't too difficult, but don't expect the manual to help you. good quality parts, take a chance and buy this disc. Can't say much about the case itself as I've only had it a few weeks. I'll be back in 6 months and will update this review because if it survives during that time with no problems (or the drive fails and I can rebuild it) I'll be able to rate it better based on hardware merits. They are still zero when it comes to customer service ------------------------Updated 11/29/20 I said I was 6 months behind. actually it's almost a year now. I have a comment: I had 0 problems with the drive. It just works and is very quiet. If my computer crashes, this disk will be mounted when I come back. Is always. Which is saying a lot considering I had a 5 bay Terramaster D5-300 that gave me problems every month. I haven't been in a situation where I need to replace any drives (I have WD Red at the moment so I don't expect any problems anytime soon) so I don't know how difficult it is. especially since I will be alone (no customer support). But when that day comes I'll be back to update this review again and at least share what steps I had to go through to get the drive working again. I've raised my rating from 1 star to 3 because of the amazing reliability. It probably won't ever get much higher due to poor user manuals and a lack of customer service, but we'll see.
