I bought this for my 18 month old who loves to stack blocks. Blocks are smooth except for regular wood which is rougher than colored ones. They're a good size for his hands and I'm not worried about them posing a hazard to the check. I know this toy is for older kids so he has difficulty stacking blocks as there is limited space for each block. It will be a challenge that I hope he enjoys. Overall I would say this is a good starter set of wooden blocks to see if your child is interested in this type of toy.
