Review on Bi Color 3200 5000K Traveling Filmmakers Photography by Rick Vidaurri

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great option for the price

I didn't have high hopes for them when I bought them. Buying 3 of these wasn't exactly cheap ($450), but the idea of being able to do close-ups for a tenth the price of a Westcott made it irresistible to try. Processing quality, fit and workmanship are around 5 out of 10 points. This was no surprise considering the price difference between them and the only high-end models on the market. The square frame and connecting components were quite difficult to assemble, as was the electrical connector between it and the AC power supply. When they're fully assembled, the LED mat placed over them gives them a bit more stability, but I don't plan on taking them apart, so I carry them in a larger suitcase-style tote bag. I believe they may loosen a bit during assembly/disassembly. Likewise, the tote bags seem a bit pointless as I can't figure out how to assemble them on the spot. I liked that they added some extra frame connectors that connect the components. Ease of use is about 8 out of 10. Once assembled they are lightweight, easy to adjust and move (I mounted them on an inexpensive 1/4" ball). - the head is attached to the light stands). The included remote easily synced with the backlight and worked very well. I'll probably take a marker and number the controls on the remote. I would rate the work 7 out of 10. Color reproduction was very accurate as measured by my colorimeter and intensity was consistent with no flickering or hiccups. All LED bulbs continue to work without problems after 2 months of use. I used a 3 light setup (1 on the bottom and on each side) and there was enough power for indoor/studio shooting without having to bump the ISO from 100 or open the aperture faster than f/5.6. As much as I'd love to try them in place of flashes to block the sun on outdoor shots, I think that's where they're likely to fail, although I'm not sure even high-end flashes actually do. OK. Overall I am very happy with the purchase. This gave me the ability to get great soft light for portraits without the hassle of setting up a larger flash.
