This valve is very durable, much stronger than the original. While I like that it's thicker, it's a little tight at the opening so it doesn't close completely on the sides after my dogs have walked through. But because it's thicker, the wind doesn't make it wobble like the originals. It wasn't difficult to remove the original doors, but it was difficult to install them yourself (I have two doors). I needed someone to hold the lid up to the holes while I screwed in the 6 screws. Having no help I tried gluing the valve in place and putting nails in the holes to hold the valve in place so I could drive the screws in. It didn't work that well, but I managed to have two XL doors replaced myself - definitely a two person replacement/installation job.
