I think the lifespan of a laptop is very dependent on the operating temperature of the processor. So I always used a cooling pad. It's designed to fit in my computer bag (thin and light) so I can take it with me when I travel. One of the dangers of using a cooling pad, since it's usually set to support the PC at a slanted angle to allow for good airflow, is that the PC can slide onto the floor underneath. This cooling pad has a pull tab on the front edge that can be lifted up. This prevents the PC from slipping off the surface of the pad. Good idea; thoughtful design.
