Review on Sew Mini Treats Plushies by Klutz by Seth Hogate

Cute starter kit for kids

My 7 year old daughter wanted her own 'mini sewing kit' even though (or perhaps because of) I have a whole sewing room full of fabric, felt, embroidery floss and a huge amount of stuffing - and I'd love to let her use some of it. I'm an advanced crafter/seammaker and made costumes, quilts and small toys like this without a pattern a few years ago. But my child is very independent and likes to decide everything on his own, he doesn't want to do it all when I tell him what to do. So I liked that it came with a well-written and well-illustrated instruction book that really walked you through the steps and explained the basics. There is also a lot of inspiration as the designs are very cute. She was able to read the instructions and learned how to thread her needle and do a few simple stitches (and unbutton). She made the first project with some help and is inspired to do more, so I'm optimistic I'll have a little crafting buddy now. Embroidery is still difficult, it takes a lot of practice to get even stitches, but I think these patterns could be interesting for teenagers and they teach the basics of 3D fabric designs. The small products are very suitable as decorations for family and friends. Quality materials and it's a good standalone starter kit. I didn't find the needles dull as another reviewer noted. Overall I am impressed with this kit.
