This is actually normal with occasional use.
Despite the low price, some reviews made me nervous it might fall apart. Seems ok for occasional light use though. I think if you need a good handheld mirror for everyday use, you might want to invest in a better one. But for the occasional use of "I need to look into the back of my head," so far so good. It's what I expected for a few bucks and it's easier than going to a dollar store these days.
