My idea was to use this to record a video of me doing math manipulations on a notepad on my desk for study purposes. Nowadays, when students watch the lecture online, we often skim the lecture and then do something more active in the classroom. Since I have access to software to convert my screen capture, audio, and computer camera to online video, the lack of video capture software didn't really bother me. When setting up, it is important to follow the instructions exactly. For a while I couldn't get it to work because I ran the software and then connected the camera and you have to do it the other way around or the camera is dead. They have an online chat option to help you with such dealing with things, although I have figured this out myself through trial and error. Also, the camera destroyed my USB ports first and I had to reboot my computer to get it back. The camera itself looks pretty crappy, but it works well and is reasonably priced. Autofocus can be an issue as it can constantly switch between focus and blur when you're looking at a piece of paper on your desktop. Not sure why that is. Another reviewer had a good idea of getting the focus you want and then disabling the autofocus feature. The resolution seems perfectly adequate for my purposes once it is in focus.
