Review on Gigastone Z90 32GB USB 3.1 Flash Drive: Waterproof, Compact & Reliable Performance by Geoff Foster

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The flash drive works well but has a serious problem with stuttering when playing movies.

The drive is actually a solid drive and actually holds 128 GB of data. Moving files to and from the flash drive works without any issues, but this is the first flash drive I've ever had trouble streaming movies stored on it. When I load "some" movie and try to play it in a video player like Media Player Classic, VLC or Windows Media Player, the video starts to stutter and stutter, the audio is totally garbled and it only gets 3-4 Frames played per second. I reported this to Gigastone customer service and they tried to tell me the problem was with my computer and not the flash drive. If it was 2 days sooner I would return the flash drive because it's not good for people like me who like to stream videos straight from a flash drive. I now have a drive that I can only use for file transfers and since it's a refurbished flash drive I'm not entirely sure how long it will last before it fails. I'll probably use it for non-essential storage purposes, but I'm no longer comfortable with Gigastone products and won't be using them in the future. (PS This is the second Gigastone stick I had problems with. The first stick which contained very important data completely failed after 3 weeks and had to be sent to a data recovery center to have the data removed from it. Luckily I only had to pay around $300 for a full NAND removal and restore, but this latest release is the straw that broke the camel's back.
