DO NOT USE ON PAINT COATED WIRE

This should only be used on smooth uncoated wire! Reviews about it were pretty good and it was a reasonable price. I should have just kept going! The first problem I had was the wire not going through at all. You really have to squeeze the little thing around the wire to make it work! The wire I was working with was a fairly average gauge of 14g. It wasn't too thin or so thick that the tool wouldn't close it. But as soon as I loosened my grip just a little, the wire popped right out. I squeezed it so hard that I actually hurt my hand. The second problem was that it didn't straighten the wire very well. It was definitely straighter, but it still had curves that looked obvious when I tried to reuse it, even after skipping it a few times. (But maybe I just wasn't squeezing it hard enough to straighten it properly because my arm was so sore from trying!) The third problem I encountered was when trying to straighten the paint coated wire. He removed large chunks of the colored coating, leaving huge chunks of silvery aluminum! This pretty much messed up the colored wire I was trying to run through. I tried loosening my grip so there wasn't as much pressure on the cover and hopefully it didn't come loose, but that brought me back to the first problem I had with the wire slipping out of the tool. Honestly, it's too much hassle than it's worth! I would suggest just gluing with pliers to straighten the wires by hand. It's time consuming, but at least it works!
