In my experience, Mason jars have few basic uses. Of course, they were intended for preserving fruit and vegetables, and in some places for drinking sweet tea or lemonade. As kids we used them on warm summer nights to hold fireflies. Now we use them for garden lights. What I love about these flashlights is that they are portable and bright enough to be used as flashlights to illuminate dark places when there is no flashlight around. We hang one near the door to light the lock for our keys when the porch lights are off. I gave my mother a set to hang on low garden hooks to light the path that is shadowed by other lights in the buildings around her garden. They are much brighter than cheap solar garden lights. Each jar has a tightly coupled array of warm white mini LEDs instead of the harsh cool white LEDs found on other kits. You'll need to stretch and tie the lights into a loose ball so they're evenly distributed throughout the jar. They also look very cute when they happen to be hanging around in the garden. I wish I'd bought more than 4 because I kept finding places I'd love to hang another one. Lights, glass lid, solar panels and battery compartments are separated from the glass part. If the jar cracks or breaks, you can replace it with a regular mason jar. Keep them in a place with enough sunlight to allow them to be fully charged. If they are not in the right place, they will slowly drain the battery. They turn on automatically when the ambient light disappears and turn off automatically when it increases. This means that when you turn on your porch lights or outdoor security lights, other lights nearby can make it so bright that the lights in the cans don't come on or go out too soon. The only downside I found was a minor one, and luckily I hope it was one of the battery covers that was missing. Luckily the AA battery fits right in without it, so it wasn't a big deal.
