The lens is easier to insert and remove with the large end down, but the lens cap tends to come loose when the lens is extruded, but I can live with that. It's not even a tight diametral fit, but it's snug when the tip is pulled tight. The liner is good enough to use in luggage or a camera bag, but I wasn't expecting it to protect the lens from dropping more than 2 inches, maybe less, on a hard surface. An external zip pocket is utterly useless when the lens is in a bag as the lens itself will pull it out with a curve, but it is useful for holding the lens cap and possibly the filter when the lens is out. The lining is velvety soft, which is good, but it's not attached to the bottom of the case so it stretches out a bit when you remove the lens. Maybe I'll sew it up to fix it. In general, it is suitable for my purposes.
