I am a musician and a music lover. I know good sound. This little mic is amazing. I had a baseball style MV5 mic that sounded good, had terrible stand and was monophonic. boo I also have a Rode Video Mic Me Compact TRRS Cardioid Mini - Gun Mic - mono again, sounds muffled - better than the iPhone's internal mic, but not by much. My Blue Yeti is superior in size and quality but this thing is a BEAST and as far as I can tell it's not compatible with iOS devices so I only use it when recording from my DSLR or computer. I'd say the sound quality is a tie between the Yeti and the MV88+, but the 88 is much SMALLER and EASIER to set up and use, it wins by a wide margin. The iOS app is a little jumpy and I don't like the (non-adjustable) presets, but you can customize the pickup pattern and mic's compression, EQ, clipping, etc., and those settings are saved in the mic itself. , so they are active in any app you use to record sound as long as it is compatible with the microphone. Again, I'd say the sound quality is similar to the Yeti, but you have more control over the 88 via software than the dull but cushy Yeti controls, while avoiding the phallic presence of the Abominable Snow mic dominating your desk , not to mention your mouth when you speak into it. Not that there's anything wrong with that, if that's your thing, just be careful - the Yeti doesn't travel like this little gem. In the end, they both cost the same, so it comes down to what you need in terms of style and portability.
