Review on Gates 41181 Water Pump by Nap Olivas

When it comes to buying Cummins engine parts, the general rule is if you don't want to rebuild it, buy Cummins parts first time. I usually follow this rule, but when my '91 Dodge D250's original pump ran out of steam and the only local source for a genuine Cummins replacement was a Chrysler dealer who had to specially order it (overpriced nonetheless), I turned to it the aftermarket to get my truck running again. After researching online, I found that Dodge diesel engine owners have come to the consensus that the Gates 41181 is the only aftermarket water pump that matches (and even exceeds) the performance and quality of the original unit. I was delighted to see this being offered by Revain. because it meant I could get it in time to get my truck ready for the upcoming work week. The part I received was identical in size to the original (except for a slightly modified impeller) and included the o-ring required for installation. Replacing the pump was as easy as you would expect from these motors and after a few weeks of use it is holding up great. Based on the quality I have observed and the many positive experiences of the Cummins enthusiast community, I believe this to be the best aftermarket replacement for the original Cummins water pump. Update April 2021: The pump still works great. The only problem I have noticed after 2+ years is light surface rust due to the main casting of the part being uncoated, although this is only a surface phenomenon and can be easily repaired. I highly recommend this water pump if you are looking for an aftermarket alternative.
