$7 can save you hundreds.

This tool kit is almost perfect! I'll start with a little background. I am mostly tech savvy and occasionally repair my own electronics and items for friends and family. My MacBook Pro is stuck in a 'function' known as thermal throttling. When old thermal paste dries out, it also no longer conducts heat, so performance drops in favor of preservation. I'm not exactly sure if Apple actually offers this on-demand service or not, but I honestly wouldn't believe it does. So once I figured out what was wrong with my laptop, I rolled up my sleeves, got out what few electronic tools I had handy, and started disassembling my MacBook. Bad idea. Have you ever heard the saying that you shouldn't take a knife to a gunfight? Everything went well. Long story short, I ripped off the clip from the motherboard that would hold the keyboard cable in place, and you can't just replace the clip on the motherboard, you have to replace the entire board. . Had I installed this tool in time for this repair, I could have saved myself the expense of replacing the circuit board. However, they arrived in time for me to swap out the motherboard, and before I did (I managed to upgrade from an i5 processor to an i7 processor, a bit of a performance boost I'm sure.) I reset sure I had removed the thermal sync and replaced the old thermal paste with fresh TG-7. My Geekbench scores are now higher than average for the i7 version of my MacBook Pro. Above average is almost inaudible. It's like a brand new car. But these tools, if you attempt repairs without them, could end up costing you several hundred dollars extra. Learn from my mistake! My only flaws here have to do with durability and strength as I have a feeling the plastic spatula will definitely break on the sharp pointed side at some point. I don't really trust plastic. That being said, the kit is worth the money and any Mac enthusiast planning to fix their own machine really should have one.
