Review on 🦎 Challenging Frustration Free Melissa & Doug Chameleon Toy by Scott Schram

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A great learning tool that's also fun!

I discussed this purchase based on negative reviews but am glad I took the risk. I have one child so most things require us to play with her. This is no exception. I bought this for my 3 3/4 year old daughter. I've used it indoors on carpet and hardwood floors and outdoors on a concrete patio in grassy and non-grassed (muddy) areas, but not in wet mud. Effortlessly shakes off dry dirt, works well on the patio and indoors. It's lightweight so little ones can move around easily, but if it's windy outside you can weight it down to keep it in place. I can't comment on how well the stains come out of the fabric as we haven't had this problem before. It looks well made and is really easy to transport. Whether you're outside in the garden or walking through the park, it's easy to carry by the handle or under your arm. If you can make it to your destination with it, you can even make a shoulder strap for it quite easily. The rattles are filled with small round grains smaller than bb. I squeezed them and they stay tight. Bags don't hurt when thrown at you. Some reviews are unhappy with the size of the rattles, I have a little more than the palm of my daughter. My daughter is 41 inches tall and weighs 40 pounds. The rattles are stored in a mesh pocket, which also has Velcro closures. It is located on the end panel that connects the two printed panels together, and when the item is in the closed state, the rattle storage bag is locked inside under the end panel. When I first received it and took off the packaging, I thought Beanbags were missing until I opened it fully. It assembles easily with two zippers that go through the end panel and a panel with a printed image and fastens with Velcro. After assembly, the rattle storage bag is inside the structure. It looks like the picture and is colorful. This is fabric and I believe it can be damaged by tools cutting or piercing the fabric. I didn't want a wooden piece, so fabric suits us very well. For storage, it can be easily slid under or behind a piece of furniture. The rattles are numbered according to the yellow plate, which is the easiest site for my daughter to name holes. It lies flatter on the ground (more level) than the blue side, which is more upright. However, you can also use the blue printed side for a horizontal throw, the panel print can appear as if it was printed upside down. The rattles come in two different shades of blue, which are good for two-player games. Even numbers have a darker hue than odd numbers. They have a number on one side and a dragonfly on the other. Currently my daughter has to stand close to summon the blue side. Tossing a beanbag is a challenge for toddlers anyway, so in terms of learning and coordination (knowing where to stand and how to throw the bag to hit the hole), helping them develop these skills is helpful to help. She gets very upset when they don't get in the holes, but I see this as a great learning opportunity to help her understand those feelings as well. I'm not one of those moms who thinks everyone deserves an award just for playing. While I don't care if she wins or loses, I can't let her lose. Overall I am satisfied with this purchase. My daughter is not destructive or cruel to her toys. Since she is an only child, my father and I play with her and take turns tossing the bags. It has held up well in the month we have owned it and is played on the road daily. We store it indoors or in a covered area outside. We also used bean bags to toss onto kid-sized tennis racquets, used racquets to toss bean bags into holes, used bean bags on a trampoline to see if they moved when she bounced, used them for counting and ordering, played games such as throwing the #1 bag into the #1 hole called the hole, like in billiards (now I'm throwing this into the #3 hole) which makes everyone throw into the #1 hole, same Hole during a round, tries juggling bags, throwing bags at each other while playing ball, and throwing small balls into holes. Also, there is a game she loves the most and for every game she misses she has to burn off energy (she loves it and will run to the fence, jump in place, ride her trike, etc.). Her marksmanship improves when she doesn't want to run, Mom is happy when she pulls out the wobbles, and the game is often used.
