Review on πŸ“ Accurate & Durable: PHYHOO Stainless Calipers Measuring Caliper by Sean Young

Raising the scale for easier reading is good but the scale markings are about 10% lower

Paid a little more for this version among several almost identical items hoping for more money for better quality. There is no such happiness. Before use, I checked the accuracy using objects of known size. Unfortunately, the measurements were very inaccurate, probably due to the distance between measurements not matching the pivot point, but that's just a guess on my part. A series of measurements were taken, measured the actual gap compared to the stated measurement and found that the measurement was underestimated by about 10% across the range. Since I've been using this to sort parts by size, the error builds up fast enough that it can't be used as intended. A small error (0.9 vs 1.0) at the bottom works to separate 1mm vs 2mm. But in the middle (4.5 vs. 5.0) and high range (9.0 vs. 10.0), using the stamped scale was too imprecise for my purpose. I liked the added flex of the indicator arm, more movement than the gap change, to make it easier to read below, so I decided to keep it and make my own markings on the dial. I covered the existing scale with stick on label and made my own scale markings at each pointer position using objects of known sizes. Looks a bit confusing but works well enough for sorting. Just don't expect the stamp on the scale to be accurate.
