Don't even think about buying "unofficial " replacement pads. You want it.

Like many "audiophiles" of a certain age, my first pair of "high" headphones was the famous Sennheiser HD580. I bought them on sale many, many years ago (they actually came with a really weird virtual surround system). I probably paid $200 for them, which is way more than I've ever paid for headphones before. Over a decade later, the HD580 gave way to the HD600, which, as you may know, has identical drivers to the 580, with some speaker "improvements". build quality. And even with stiff competition in the $200-$500 headphone space, the $600 (and therefore $580) headphones remain a favorite among people familiar with a wide range of headphones. limited lifespan. After a while, they just fall apart, greatly reducing the sound and comfort of the headphones. Unlike some other brands like Grado, third party alternatives to OEM pads are very limited. You can either buy leather or velor upholstery very cheaply from China or buy it from Sennheiser or Dekoni. Prices from $35. Having come across Chinese leather covers, I can say, do not waste your time in vain. The ones I bought had a really negative impact on the sound of the 580 and I suspect all the numerous resellers on the internet are selling the same thing. Oh how I wish I didn't have to spend $50 on replacement pads. But then, in an upgrade frenzy, I started buying audiophile headphones, hoping at least one of them would appeal to me like the 580 did when our love was new. Maybe it's me, but I found the Beyerdynamic DT880 Premium and AKG K701 much less satisfying than the old 580s, even with Chinese leather upholstery. So I finally bit the bullet and bought them. I'm so glad I did and so are you. Maybe you love every modern pair of headphones more than I do, but if you want your HD580/600 to be as good as new, here's how. Highly recommended.
