Yesterday I wore a hat when I mowed the lawn. It was about 40 degrees outside. This is not a slouch hat, it just covers my head with no extra "sham" space. You never said I had a big head. So from the picture I would say it's small but not tight and not very deep although it does cover the ears. The material is soft and does not scratch. The scarf fits and is a good length. I also ordered a hat from another seller for $9.99, this hat has a detachable cap, is much larger (slouchy) and is fleece lined.
