Absolute turning point for my 2003 Road Star. Road Star and V Star motorcycles have a habit of slipping the clutch under hard acceleration. This is due to the diaphragm spring design they use. I paired a Barnett clutch plate with new OEM Yamaha friction and steel plates. Mine had 53,000 on them and they were still in good condition but figured I'd swap them out while I still had the main open. Most people think the records are actually okay and Barnett is all it takes. Barnett replaces the diaphragm spring with a 6-spring plate that provides more even pressure. You will need to purchase a new main cover gasket for this installation. I bought an OEM clutch, steel and gasket kit from another dealer for less than $120. Barnett redesigned the bearing in this clutch disc and the plate I received actually had a new bearing design. Installation was very easy. Follow the bike's instructions to tighten the 6 bolts or you risk damaging the clutch hub. The responsiveness is much better with the Barnett, but be aware that it completely changes the feel of the grip. This plate engages the clutch much faster and more firmly, making clutch travel feel short. Overall I think this is a must have for any serious driver. The bike feels like it has a lot more torque now when it's actually going to the rear wheel!
