My building at work was cleaning the exterior walls with some kind of high pressure sprayer that coated my car with something that would break the paint/windows very rough to the touch. I've tried my usual washing procedures a couple of times but it didn't remove the dirt. My next step was to try a clay block until I stumbled upon this article. I confess I ordered it with some skepticism as I just didn't think it would work as well as advertised. The application is the same as the rod, you work one section of the car at a time and spray on plenty of lube before rubbing the car. But instead of constantly piling up the clay to keep the "clean" side of the car, periodically dip your glove in a bucket of clean water to get rid of any contaminants. I didn't apply a lot of pressure. Simply rub the surface gently with the mitten as you would with a regular glove. I noticed that when starting a new section, I felt a roughness and heard a sound similar to bare feet rubbing on concrete. Then, after the first few passes, the roughness was removed and the noise went away. I was still a little skeptical, but was beginning to hope it would work. Of course after you are done and wash/dry again. The surface is smooth as glass again. I got the same results as the Clay Bar in a fraction of the time. I highly recommend you try this glove first before using an old fashioned rod.
