I bought this insulated water bottle to replace my favorite 1.5 liter vacuum bottle that I lost a few months ago. Had high hopes for this bottle which arrived just in time for a trip to the spa with no clothes on. I decided to clean the bottle by adding a few drops of dish soap to the water, closing the lid and shaking vigorously. After a few shakes, I turned the bottle upside down and noticed water around my neck. Tried another cover, same problem. I could slow the leak by tightening the cap, but it would be impossible to use. I think the problem is the thin white PLASTIC O-ring in the lid that needs to be pressed against the stainless steel rim. bottles. My previous bottle used a large flat rubber o-ring that never leaked. This lid looked a bit crooked when screwed correctly; a compressible rubber O-ring would compensate for this manufacturing tolerance problem. I will try to add a video. The other issue was the chemical smell (I think manufacturing oil) in the bottle AFTER trying to wash it. I usually get nervous about Chinese made products and possible contaminants like lead; I can wash stainless steel and feel relatively comfortable in its safety. Having enough by-products in the bottle to stand up to my soapy wash means the manufacturer didn't spend money on a thorough post-production rinse. The neoprene sleeve looks decently well built, but it was a pain to slide off the bottle. The sleeve is one piece with a narrow neck and no zipper, requiring you to stretch the neck to slide it over the wide body of the bottle. Same issue when re-enabling; The neck of the sleeve folded under itself and was difficult to straighten. I could probably live with sleeve issues and chemicals, maybe buy my own rubber o-rings for a leak issue, but no. I will return it after the trip.
