Review on πŸ“Ά Enhance Signal Strength with the Cisco-Linksys WSB24 Wireless-B Signal Booster by Darren Cole

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Add this to your Linksys AP when you need the band

). only 2 floors, construction of wood, lathe and plaster). I first installed a Linksys BEFW11S4 cable/DSL router and only had marginal good reception about 50 feet through the walls from the BEFW11S4. Installing WSB24 took less than 60 seconds. It's on top of the router - same footprint. At the edge, signal strength improved from good to excellent. Eight computers, both Macs and PCs, have excellent Internet connections through a single router and DSL interface. PRO: small size, works as advertised, easy and quick to install. CONS: Cost, another power supply, it probably won't improve reception through noisy walls unless you have adequate reception to start with (see tip #2 below). Router Placement Tip #1: Place your router as high as possible in the room or building to significantly improve signal strength. Tip #2: This is a one-way street. The wireless adapter in each computer acts as a transmitter back to the wireless router. Improper placement of the computer or antenna will result in poor reception, even with a signal booster like the WSB24. Try relocating your computer, or buy a wireless USB adapter (such as the Linksys WUSB11) that has a USB cable that allows it to be placed closer to your wireless router. If reception is poor on a laptop with an internal wireless card, replace it with a wireless card installed in the PC slot. The antenna protrudes from the PC Card slot to reduce interference. The best in my experience is the Cisco Aironet 350, which has 100mW of transmit power (the average laptop card is 30mW) and a diversity antenna that adjusts to the router in any position.

Pros
  • Easy to install - fold, plug in and go
Cons
  • Not everything fits
