I am using this cable to connect my BTech UV-5X3 Tri-Band portable radio to an Apple MackBook Pro. It works perfectly. The built-in authentic FTDI chip is the key to a true plug and play experience. Cheaper cables with clone chips may or may not work, but they are difficult to use and require manual installation of drivers and patches for the computer's operating system.
