Using the TH-9000D isn't that difficult once you get the hang of it

Great radio! There is some life around these places at 220. Works at Simplex between my sons (yes I had to buy 3 of them) about 20 miles from here with J-Pole or Slim Jims. This radio should allow more of us to use the 1.25 meter band and keep the buzzards at the FCC from auctioning it off to the highest bidder. So it takes a minute to figure out the programming. I think it's easier than my Yaesu VX3R. Here's how I do it: I programmed it like this (although there's more than one way to skin the cat): 1. Determine the channel you want to store the new frequency on2. Press "VFO" on Microphone3. Enter the frequency (use the microphone keypad) that the repeater is transmitting (not YOUR transmit frequency) or any other simplex frequency you want4. Short press and release the P5 button to access PL Tones5. Rotate the channel selection knob to select the desired PL Tone6. Short press and release the P3 button (P3 equivalent to Enter or Escape key) - whatever you last exited as the PL sound is the current 7. Hold P4 to access the Access offset - read it on screen.8. IF the offset is NOT what you want THEN press and release the P3 button THEN go back to P4 and see if it has changed (e.g. from - to +). You can also rotate the knob to change the offset value.9. Briefly press and release the P3 button to exit the offset adjustment 10. USE your microphone to access the POWER LEVEL parameters you want to store in the channel with FUNCT and then 0 until you get the level you want to store. Press P3 to exit POWER LEVEL option. You can now SAVE in the channel (unless you want to further condition your frequency). Display (to the left of the display) AND the channel number display (which is flashing at this point) 15. Rotate the Channel Select knob until you see the desired channel number (from step 1) OR until you see a FLASHING "M” (this indicates a empty channel on)16. Press and hold P3 until you hear a beep (about 1 second). 17. Press the "VFO" button on the microphone to exit VFO18 mode. Make sure your new frequency is saved correctly. IF changes are required THEN switch back to VFO mode and repeat. (I had to do it - DOH!) I've programmed quite a few channels this way, I'm sure you have your own routine as well. . . . Let me know if I screwed up the process. . .Here is also a good explanation of the factory settings P1 - 5 buttons from the software:

Pros
  • Output power: FM: 10W/25W/60W
Cons
  • Not sure
