The programming software is not that great.

The radio is great and seems to do everything you could want from a portable FM transceiver. The software leaves a lot to be desired. Editing is not up to date. Importing other files is not easy. With 50 repeaters plus the call frequency, there's a lot to give for everyone. Typical of modern setups, using the radio controller to program memories is quite a hassle. Good output power, good sound reception. Sound transmission requires work, maybe a better microphone. The different display colors…

I am satisfied with CB and radio equipment

I bought this transceiver because I wanted my amateur radio to be able to work in the 220 ohm band. Already in its third year, it is being used as a base station with a home-made antenna on the ground. I have no problems with this radio. My only personal criticisms (and the reason for the one star rating) are: 1. The mic feels cheap and the audio quality is a bit confusing but very legible. I just wish it emphasized the highs a little more. And I mentioned that the mic seems cheap (although it…

I would love to give this radio 5 stars but due to the incredibly awful manual that comes with it I can only give 4 stars. In all honesty the manual is beyond useless as it actually contains completely inaccurate information on how to program the radio. I hope this doesn't put anyone off buying a radio as the radio itself works very well and is actually pretty easy to program once you have the right information about it. This information can be found online (including the comments section…

Reliable and easy to use once programmed

I had it for about three weeks and waited to check because I wanted to see if there were any problems. They are not here. I'm using this as a base station with a 7A TrippLite power supply. It's not enough to run the radio at full power, so I can't comment on the radio overheating issues. I know it doesn't get hot at 10w or 25w power settings. I don't need more than 10 watts to power any of the local repeaters here in Mpls./St. Pavel comes from the other side of town. It's a bit different than…

Excellent 220MHz Mobile Radio

TYT TH-9000D 60W 220-260MHz 200 Channels Mobile Ham Radio was very easy to install . Programming might be a bit tricky but I used RT Systems programming software. I have tried using the data/programming cable that came with the radio along with the software that I got from the internet. The software only recognized COM port 9 and did not communicate with the radio. Out of curiosity I tried the TYT software with a cable from RT Systems and it worked great. It found COM ports 9 and 15. I chose 15

These radios have a significant disadvantage.

REVIEW UPDATE: I have purchased 3 original 9000 models and 5 9000D models. The original 9000 was pristine and even ran cooler than the 9000D on longer rags. A few years later they are still working. The 9000D that followed the original 9000 is REALLY a complete failure. Bad quality control. The main problem is that, as another poster pointed out below, they randomly fall out of reception for 1/2-2 seconds. This is NOT a microphone, squelch, or other modifiable issue. The point is in the…

Using the TH-9000D isn't that difficult once you get the hang of it

Great radio! There is some life around these places at 220. Works at Simplex between my sons (yes I had to buy 3 of them) about 20 miles from here with J-Pole or Slim Jims. This radio should allow more of us to use the 1.25 meter band and keep the buzzards at the FCC from auctioning it off to the highest bidder. So it takes a minute to figure out the programming. I think it's easier than my Yaesu VX3R. Here's how I do it: I programmed it like this (although there's more than one way to skin the
