Review on Tyt TH-9000D VHF2 Mono Band Mobile Car Radio Transceiver - 50 Watt, 200 Channel, 8 Scrambler, Black by Donald Phillips

Revainrating 5 out of 5

These radios have a significant disadvantage.

REVIEW UPDATE: I have purchased 3 original 9000 models and 5 9000D models. The original 9000 was pristine and even ran cooler than the 9000D on longer rags. A few years later they are still working. The 9000D that followed the original 9000 is REALLY a complete failure. Bad quality control. The main problem is that, as another poster pointed out below, they randomly fall out of reception for 1/2-2 seconds. This is NOT a microphone, squelch, or other modifiable issue. The point is in the firmware, the software instruction itself, or some kind of hardware bug. I sent back the last 3 from the same supplier and washed my hands off this model. Other issues are the noisy volume pot which works so hard it could burn you and the 65w output isn't even close, 35-40w is more realistic for the Bird when the radio is COLD and even less, when it's hot. I tested a Jetstream JT-222M that looks the same but uses a different wired/programmed microphone, buttons and hardware. It is reported to be a rebranded Anytone. It has NO RX disconnect, muting, fading or whatever you want to call an issue. Your experience may be different, I hope so, but it looks like others are reporting this issue as well. I do NOT recommend. End of revised review ------ ----------------------- This is my second purchase of the 220 TYT TH-9000D radio. My first lasted over a year. Hope it's the same. 220 radios are hard to find, sorry, almost impossible. With the exception of Alinco's mobile offering (which I LOVE Alinco which has 2 of their HTs) and those units have had PA issues for the last few years. It hits the mark, price and features. Output power up to 55W. The only thing is that on my device when turning the volume knob there is some kind of static noise with each press. This is typical for QCs made in Chinese factories. Some people complain that these radios are "dirty" and produce an RF hash from doorbells and transmit RF to speakers etc. I've tested this, but I'm using good quality coaxial cable with good* shielding. *, you will not have this problem. There's a reason some coax cables are half the size of others. Finally, TYT's programming software is awful crap. I use RT Systems. Worth every penny. 5 stars for the money spent.
