Review on πŸ’‘ Philips 535377 Dimmable Energy Efficient LED by Christopher Smith

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It didn't work for me - they flashed like disco lights if I turned them off and then back on.

I really wanted to like these light bulbs, but unfortunately it didn't work out for me. Luckily, Revain takes her back. About 5 years ago we completely remodeled our kitchen. Where we live, we are obliged to install special high-power lamps in the kitchens. We are not allowed to fit standard screw base lights where you can simply change bulbs as technology changes/improves. Back then, we chose between specialized compact fluorescent lamps and LED lights. We used Halo ceiling lights and decided we would never recoup the additional cost of custom LED cans from energy savings alone, so we went with CFL lights. They worked well, but we always disliked the fact that they took so long to heat up and get bright. These upgraded LED bulbs seemed like the perfect solution! When I installed it for the first time, I was amazed. They fitted perfectly, turned on almost instantly (there's a slight delay), were noticeably brighter than the CFLs they replaced, and the color was the perfect warm white for the kitchen. The problem occurs when they are left on for a while (more than 20 minutes or so) to warm up. Then when we turn them off and try to turn them back on, they flash quickly around the room and don't light up again. Only after they have completely cooled down (the time depends on the duty cycle) do they switch on again. I know most of you will say I must be using an incompatible dimmer, but these lights are not included. basically a dimmer. In fact, they're not even on a three-way chain. Our wiring is all new, sourced from a brand new main panel. Just to make sure the switch wasn't "weak", I replaced it with a new one and nothing changed. In this case it's just a heating issue with the bulbs, possibly coupled with the fact that the bulbs don't "play well" with the Halo ballasts. Whatever the problem, I seem to be one of the few reviewers who had problems with these tubes. However, I can't live with the fact that I can't turn the light off without waiting an hour or so to turn it back on, so the CFLs are back in the ceiling and they're coming back.

Pros
  • Durability: These Philips LED bulbs last 13 times longer than fluorescent bulbs. Each lamp is expected to last up to 36,000 hours of light (based on three hours per day), saving you the hassle of frequent lamp changes.
Cons
  • A few little things
