I took a lot of pictures when I was filming. I had a couple of Lens Reflex single cameras. I didn't adapt well to digitization, mainly because of the cost of the lenses. but i came across this canon rebel ti4 and the guy gave it to me but the lens on it was an 18 - 55 f3.5 lens. So it was difficult to get good wildlife shots. I saw this $200 Tamron lens and thought what was wrong with it, but I've had a few Tamron lenses in the past so thought I'd give it a try. So I'm going to compare it to the original 18x55 lens that came with the camera. First thing I noticed. It was harder. As you'd expect, you've got a lot more lenses. This will be more difficult. Then I notice that when enlarged to 18mm the lens is about the same length as the original 18x55. The diameter is slightly larger, I think the filter size is 64 vs 58 or so. I tried the same lighting conditions at different focal lengths. I didn't notice the loss of opening between them. That said, at 18mm and 55mm I needed and could get the same aperture at the same shutter speed for both. With the Tamron, the zoom was narrower. Canon was simpler, but Tamron wasn't difficult to scale. but on the same twist you increase the length by almost four times, so I agree with that. this is a mechanical advantage. Reduced to 200, the Tamron is about 2x as long as the Canon lens. hence the weight. Tamron's autofocus is very quiet. you don't hear Well, if you really like listening to it, you don't have to worry about the autofocus noise scaring off this Tamron-equipped hummingbird. The Tamron has a zoom lock that locks it in place at 18mm for storage. that's fine, but maybe not necessary as it's pretty tight and won't move on its own anyway. I think this lens is great. I haven't used it often enough to comment on the image quality, but for the price and customization options I think it's great. not super fast, but not crooked either. I would say why pay more for an everyday lens. I think I would still like to have a 1.2 f lens. but they get expensive
