A few years ago I bought a FiiO A1 portable headphone amp for my work laptop. At the time, it was the best option in a limited line of sub-$100 headphone amps. After getting a new working MacBook and a CalDigit dock with optical output, I went shopping again and found a few - the AIYIMA DAC-A2 proved to be the most economical. It's pretty simple - a couple of digital inputs and a couple of analog outputs. The key is the tone controls, which ensure my budget Sennheiser HD-201s sound the way they should. This AIYIMA DAC-A2 comes with an optical cable and a USB signal cable and a micro USB power cable, but no power adapter. For now I have it plugged into a spare iPhone charger and it works great.
