Review on Transformer Thermostat Competible Versions Honeywell by Mike Palma

Will not fit most thermostat settings

I'm an engineer and very experienced with these things. Installed internet thermostats in all sorts of weird places, including a 220V socket. But for Honeywell's simple internet thermostats, this solution doesn't work. This is a perfectly usable 24V transformer, but unfortunately it cannot function properly as it cannot supply an independent "C" wire, ie a common wire that will work with the 24V that most HVAC equipment supplies . It does a great job of completing a circuit with itself, i.e. H. Connecting to C as well as Rc/Rh will create a nice closed circuit and actually power the thermostat. What it does NOT do is terminate the 24V circuit of the HVAC system itself to actually turn it on or off. So the shield looks fine, but it doesn't complete the circuit with the AC or boiler controls as it's a completely separate 24V circuit. You can actually wire everything together if you like, but it is very complicated and not worth the trouble. So yes it's a great 24v transformer, expensive but it works great. However, this will NOT work for most thermostats that require a full 24V power supply plus ground/ground. I've seen it work great for things like video doorbells and such, but not for most thermostatic applications.
