For children aged 12 and over. We got this for our one year old daughter and she took to it straight away. Batteries are included. The screen is very sensitive and reacts to the child's touch. The child can swipe right, left, up or down and the icons will light up where they swipe. There's a lot going on in this tablet. First, there are 25 icons to choose from in three different modes that you can switch between at the top of the panel (Export, Tutorial, Music). The volume has two settings and can easily be turned off. The pad also turns off after 45 seconds of inactivity. Some of the topics covered are animals, their sounds, rhymes, shapes, colors, numbers, letters, weather, how to say hello in multiple languages and more. The Scout icon (green puppy) is more interactive for older toddlers. He'll say something like "jump up and down for ten seconds" and keep counting. Even our 3.5 year old enjoyed it. It was dropped on the hard floor a few times until nothing broke. It's really overwhelming at first because there are so many options. You can spend a lot of time going through different answers to get them all. But that's what keeps this toy from getting boring.
