Review on Supermicro X10SBA-O Mini ITX DDR3 1333 Motherboards for Enhanced SEO by Mark Colbert

Works for my purposes, no problem.

This is not a tech review with specs, port speeds etc because it didn't really matter to me as this mobo/cpu combo is overkill for my purposes anyway. Bought for PFSense firewall/router, ran it and DMZ machine on Virtual Box/Ubuntu Server. Just 2GB of RAM and a 64GB mSATA hard drive. Updated the BIOS and booted Ubuntu from a portable DVD drive. I seem to remember that I initially had some trouble with the BIOS when trying to boot Ubuntu from a DVD via USB, but after a bit of experimenting I got it working. Now that the SSD is loaded, it boots fast and works with no issues, no crashes, no anything. Just keep purring until I do something with the software so it doesn't mess up. But the way I learn is to break it and then spend hours fixing what I did. I've seen others say it's possible to get a better or similar MB/CPU package for less and maybe that's the case, but Supermicro has to be a good brand? Anyway, that's why I got it and not a single problem with the board itself. Following another reviewer's advice regarding 1.35V DRAM and other advice, there were no problems. I used a Supermicro CSE-505-203B rackmount server case with this board and was very disappointed with how it mechanically fitted together; maybe the worst part of the build. Not difficult, just disappointing that the board fits so poorly in the chassis as the manufacturer of both parts is the same and the chassis is listed as working with this board. I had to modify the front plane of the case to allow for this board. Matching HDMI and Displayport connectors, card stands, and optional brackets required some adjustments and metalwork just to line up the screws, and the power cable was too short and you had to pinch the wires to get the tip. a lid that flexes the mobo a bit. Otherwise no problem.
