We live in the country, everything is near a well. The water is full of calcium and other minerals, plus we get a lot of sediment and rust. The dishwasher doesn't work and everything is covered with mineral deposits. I have installed several sediment and charcoal filters but they are not removing the minerals that are preventing the water from being purified. We had a water softener but we hate that feeling and don't want to deal with bags of salt. I looked at many options and costs and the reviews turned me down. RO devices use too much water. We bought all of AO Smith's homemade descaling solution (they've always been in the store btw) and it works! I installed it after my filters. I have 50 micron, 10 micron, 5 micron mesh and charcoal. We immediately saw a huge improvement. Now we can drink tap water. Our dishwasher really cleans the dishes. Our shower doors are no longer stained. This is the best water treatment deal you can get. You must have pre-filters that AO makes. I only used what I had because it met their spec. For less than $400, you can't go wrong with this filter. We use about 2-3 months, they say it works for 6 years and there is a guarantee.
