Review on πŸ”’ High-Quality 150 PCS Canvas Snap Kit with Setting Tools - Marine Grade Stainless Steel Upholstery Boat Cover Snap Button Fasteners for DIY Furniture Covers by Barbara Simmons

These are pretty good latches, but the only stainless steel part is the screw.

The 'stainless steel clasps' advertised on the front of the box are flat lies. I'm a retired mechanical engineer from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I did a destructive analysis (grinder) to find out that the only part of this stainless steel fastener kit is a screw. If you look at the product photos you can see that the part that should be stainless steel is the entire male part of the latch. You said correctly that the female part and the button are made of brass. See my microphotos. The retaining ring is made of bare brass, the remaining clasps are made of nickel-plated brass. It probably shouldn't be used in marine applications (they are definitely not "marine grade"). All this to say that I use them to protect screens in my RV from bugs and they do an excellent job. I even ordered a second set. In addition, the included hammer drill is made of a very soft material and deforms quite easily if you hit it hard or use a larger hammer. I "glue firewood" with 8 oz. Hammer with claws and it seems to work very well. A hard blow not only deforms the punch, but rather bends the tubular rivet, resulting in a poor result. Slow down and everything will be fine. Also, get a 3/32" to 1/8" round hole punch to cut a clean hole in the material and you'll be a lot happier.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • flimsy
