Great camera to look out for

This camera is very solid in terms of materials, construction and functionality. The fact that it supports RTSP and ONVIF out of the box is a huge plus for those who prefer to use third-party apps or write their own code to interact with the camera. Setup was extremely easy. The camera launched and was up and running in about a minute using the WansView cloud app for iPhone. There are a few annoying things worth mentioning. 1) The camera cannot be installed in a horizontal position. It is intended for mounting on a vertical surface. I found it a bit annoying since the camera rotates 360 degrees. Because of the vertical mount, you can't see what's behind the camera. If the camera were designed to be mounted horizontally, it could be mounted on a stand, which would allow the camera to take advantage of a full 360-degree view. Not critical, but just a little annoying. 2) Status indicator, memory card slot and reset button are a bit hard to find. They are located under a rubber stopper located at the top of the chamber ball. The cap fits the camera fairly snugly so it's hard to find, especially as the picture in the quick start guide is a bit misleading. See attached photos of the rubber shield. Again just a nuisance as it took me a while to find it. 3) The WansView Cloud app does not indicate when the camera reaches the pan or tilt limit. Other cameras I've used get a message saying the motion limit has been reached. The WansView cloud application simply stops the video moving in the direction where the limit was reached. Watch the attached video about what happens when the limit is reached. This can easily be fixed in the program. Hopefully a future update will include this neat feature. Those three very minor annoyances aside, the WansView camera is a very good outdoor camera if you need pan and tilt functionality. And if you need to interface the camera with third-party software or custom code (like in my case), the built-in support for RTSP and OVIF is invaluable.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
