Each cone requires 3 AA batteries. It's a nice, long, smooth cone with a flickering "flame". Good base, a bit heavy. The base and cone look very stylish and sophisticated. On holidays I have them in all the windows, but also on the dining table. No sane person would mistake them for real flames, but they definitely give the illusion of a flickering open flame and a non-hazardous atmosphere. They offer a warm color, elegant flame light that is beautiful. Nicely made, no frills. In terms of effect and taper quality, this is excellent value for money. In addition, they save battery power by turning off after 6 hours. They can be used on a mantel or candelabra for dinner parties next to Christmas windows all year round.
